Jews have been defined by their communal religious observance, kinship, and the status accorded them by the states where they resided. They were born into the first two, but the latter varied depending on whether they belonged to Jewish states or in Diasporic societies where they either were subject to discrimination or equal citizens. This area invites 20-minute papers (inclusive of film clips) and panels examining how documentaries and feature films have portrayed belonging or exclusion within Jewish communities or families and within Jewish or Gentile states.
Proposals for complete panels (three related presentations) are also welcome, but must include an abstract and contact information, including an e-mail address, for each presenter.
