Are you a student who’s currently learning Yiddish, or someone without knowledge of Yiddish but with an interest in Jewish history, literature, art, and culture? The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Massachusetts is accepting applications for the 2018 Steiner Summer Yiddish Program, a seven-week, tuition-free, intensive language and culture course for college students.
Now in its fourth decade, the Steiner Summer Yiddish Program will run June 3—July 20, 2018. In the program, beginner and intermediate students take intensive Yiddish language courses every morning. Beginners enroll in an afternoon course on Yiddish history and culture taught by leading scholars in the field. Intermediate students have the opportunity to work as interns on major projects at the Center, such as oral history or collections curation, in exchange for a housing subsidy plus $1,000 for living expenses. Students can earn up to six college credits upon successful completion of the program. The program is tuition-free and housing subsidies are available for qualifying students.
The program also includes a four-day field trip to New York City and tickets to Yidstock: The Festival of New Yiddish Music, as well as a plethora of Yiddish cultural activities, excursions to local attractions, and extracurricular activities like film screenings and student-led workshops. Please check out our informational flyer, and consider applying. Applications are due February 12, 2018.
