Childcare at the AJS Conference

Dear AJS Members,

The AJS, in recognizing the financial demands placed on early-career scholars and/or single parents, is happy to announce that we will be offering subsidies up to $500 to cover the costs of childcare for presenting participants at the 50th Annual Conference. While the ability to provide childcare services on site as we have in the past has become unfortunately cost-prohibitive to the organization, the AJS is following the model of other learned societies and adopting this subsidy model. We hope that the availability of this subsidy will help offset some of the costs around childcare that some members encounter. This funding can be used to engage childcare services in Boston (some recommendations from our host hotel are provided below), to pay for additional childcare at home while you are at the conference, or travel to help bring a spouse or other care provider with you to the conference to take care of your child/children. Please note that funding is limited and is not guaranteed. An application process will open in August and we plan to let people know about grants in September. Applicants will be required to send a budget of childcare costs and, if approved for funding, will be required to submit receipts after the conference and will be reimbursed in mid-January.
