AJS Scholars of Color Fellowship

2026–27 AJS Skills and Mentorship beyond the Academy

The AJS is pleased to offer its new Skills and Mentorship beyond the Academy program, with funding made possible by the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). The program is designed for AJS members with PhDs who are underemployed or unemployed. Selected participants will meet over Zoom during the 2026–2027 academic year, where they will actively participate in professional development and skill-building sessions. Each participant will also be matched with a mentor who works outside academia. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to gather in person during the AJS Annual Conference, taking place in Philadelphia, PA from December 20–22, 2026.

In order to accommodate AJS members from various time zones, we will schedule all professional development sessions on Zoom between the window of 12–4 PM (eastern). Unfortunately, if this timing does not work for you, you should not apply to this program at this time. Please note that the professional development sessions will focus on skill-building associated with job searching in the United States.

The due date for applications is Monday, June 1 at 11:59 PM ET.
