About the Event

The Religion, Ethics, and Justice Academic Conference and Summer School is INIRE’s eighth annual gathering. Hosted by Al-Maktoum College in Dundee, it brings together scholars, educators, practitioners, and religious leaders to explore how religious and ethical traditions inform transformative social and economic change. Rooted in Islamic, Christian, and Jewish thought, while engaging secular and pluralist frameworks, the event translates moral imagination into actionable pathways for inclusive growth, equitable governance, and sustainable community development.

Themes and topics

We welcome proposals that engage (comparatively or within a single tradition) with topics including:

Religion-Inspired Economic Ethics: Wealth, poverty, redistribution, philanthropy.

Theological and Philosophical Discussions of Social and Economic Issues.

Historical Welfare Institutions in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam: waqf/awqāf; ˜e°desh/tzedakah; trusts/canon law; Communal Authority, and Markets.

Interreligious Dialogue and Solidarity: Collaborative responses to climate, poverty, migration.

Legal and Historical Discourses of Economic Justice in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Decolonial Governance and Ethical Policymaking.

Pedagogies of Justice: Teaching moral reasoning and global citizenship.

Environmental Stewardship and Spiritual Ecology.

Applied Ethics in Public Life (law, media, technology, finance, health).

Interdisciplinary and comparative approaches are especially welcome

Submission Guidelines

We invite submissions in the following categories:

Academic Papers (20-minute presentations)

Workshops (interactive sessions focused on pedagogy or practice)

Panels (thematic group proposals)

Student Research Presentations (for postgraduates and early-career scholars).
